About the About the CBM | Contact Us SMART and MAPS Teams Present at the National American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) Meetings. Molecular Illustrator David Goodsell Portrays the Complex Nature of Cell Structure at the Meso Scale. Professional Development Course for Teachers. Welcome to the CBM! At the Center for BioMolecular Modeling (CBM), teachers come first . We work closely with talented science educators from across the US to create innovative instructional materials that make the biosciences understandable. Student Programs Exciting outreach programs that help high school and undergraduate students design and build physical models of protein and molecular structures. Learn More Teacher Workshops Workshops for high school and undergraduate science educators that use physical models and computer visualization tools to make the molecular world real. Learn More Teaching Resources Digital and physical teaching resources that can be accessed onilne, borrowed or purchased. Learn More What are Physical Models? The invisible world of molecules becomes real when students hold physical models in their hands. Models function as thinking tools that stimulate questions and are a key component of the Next Generation Science Standards . The uses 3D Printing Technology to create physical models of protein and molecular structures. They are designed using the molecular Visualization software Jmol and then exported as 3D files. NOTE: You must have Javascript enabled on your browser in order to view Jmols. -- New Materials, Stories and Upcoming Events The CBM offers a variety of courses and workshops for both high school science teachers and undergraduate educators. Check back regularly for upcoming materials and events! Drugs, Drug Targets and You - a summer workshop This course introduces high school teachers to a variety of new instructional tools addressing the molecular basis of drug action and the science of addiction. Materials are focused on the basic molecular mechanisms of neuronal signaling. Learn More Genes, Genomes and Genomic Medicine - a summer workshop This course provides high school teachers with the background and tools to go beyond the Central Dogma of Molecular Biology (DNA → RNA → Protein) in their teaching, to engage their students in meaningful discussions of genomic science and its implications for personalized health care. Learn More SMART Teams Registration Now Open! The SMART Team program pairs students with research mentors to design and build a physical 3D Printed model of a protein or molecular structure. Learn More -- Our work is supported by grants from the NIH National Center for Research Resources SEPA program, the NSF CCLI program, the Department of Education Institute for Educational Sciences and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
